Fall '22 Season Update

Hey Parents, Alumni, and Friends!

As we enter into the halfway point of the Middlebury Men's Club Soccer season, we thought I'd be great time to send out our first official newsletter.

Team placement, while being quite a bit of work, ran smoothly. Roughly 100 students came to the opening day on Tuesday where we had 4 simultaneous games running. Despite the cold weather and torrential rain, a similar number came out on Wednesday when we played for an hour and a half on South Street field until lack of light forced us off. The exec team deliberated for two days before inviting 60 players to a third and final day of team placement held on Thursday afternoon. By Thursday night we had finalized a 22-person roster for MCS First Team. The notable losses from last season's squads were filled by a very talented first year class.

Our first weekend, MCS A drove to UMASS Lowell to face University of Maine and Lowell. We kicked off the season with a resounding 5-1 win against bottom of the league U Maine in which we likely had 70 percent possession. However, an early penalty and tired legs resulted in a 2-0 defeat to a talented and physical UMass Lowell side. The following weekend we hosted three games against SNHU, Dartmouth A, and Dartmouth B. A couple of questionable calls by the ref and a weak first half unfortunately led to a 2-1 loss against SNHU. We came back on Sunday with vengeance and beat the top of the table Dartmouth A 1-0 in a battle of attrition. Then, despite tired legs, we managed to come from behind and beat Dartmouth B 2-1 with a brilliant goal from Elliot Lepinard and a truly amazing diving header by Shea Brokaw.

It's been amazing couple of weeks as we continue to build team camaraderie and develop our skills. The spirit of Middlebury Men's Club Soccer is alive and well. Sha-la-la-la Your Presidents
